NOT ALLOWING COMMUNITIES TO TAKE WRAP FOR DRUG PROBLEM

It can be tough when the name of a community keeps coming up in
relation to such criminal activity as a drugs. It's important to
remember that these recent events are not a reflection of the greater
community and it's residents.

Unfortunately it is the drug busts and other crimes which are reported
in the media, and are important to know about in your community; but
there are also so many little things that we (the media) never hear
about and don't give enough coverage to.

It's people such as the ladies that can be seen out walking in the
morning in both Spirit River and Rycroft, who collect garbage and
others like them who go unrecognized. These truly are the people who
give a community its real character.

I'm sure everyone knows of someone who does something nice to help
others but they prefer to remain quiet about their good deeds. These
could be people who drive seniors to their medical appointments or
those who volunteer to help a stranger after a traumatic event.

In keeping with this trend, I believe it is a good thing that police
are doing their best to crack down on criminal activity; it just makes
the greater community as a whole a much better place to live and isn't
that the ultimate goal. It's something everyone can get involved in.

Police can't be everywhere all the time, but they are always happy to
receive tips about any kind of suspicious activity when it happens.

Perhaps people are concerned that they don't want anyone to find out
that they talked about the odd activities of their fellow residents,
but police have assured that those who assist with information are
able to do so confidentially and no one will be the wiser.

I suppose this is one way residents of a community can take a stand
and say they don't want these types of activities happening around
their family - perhaps their children and in their community as a whole.
