MARIJUANA'S ILLEGAL

In response to the letter published Tuesday August 17 entitled:
Medical Marijuana and, in response to Gary Storck co-founder, "Is my
Medicine Legal Yet?" of Madison. If you haven't already noticed Mr.
Storck, marijuana is illegal in our state. I have read your letter to
the editor and I wonder whom you are protecting with your statement:
Is my Medicine Legal YET? I read the article in the Journal Times on
Monday, and my sympathies go out to the family and friends of Derryl
Johnson for their loss.

Mr. Storck have you ever considered what marijuana does to the working
person? What if Ocean Spray were to allow Johnson to continue working
under the influence of marijuana? What if he was running a heavy
machine, with a partner, and the partner was hurt or worse, due to the
actions of Johnson. If you haven't heard, marijuana impairs your
ability to perform every day tasks. This is one of the reasons why
Ocean Spray along with many other Wisconsin companies do not allow
illegal drug use during employment. It is these companies
responsibility to protect all of the other employees from wrong doing
of others, (No, I am not an owner of Ocean Spray, or affiliated with
them at all) this is my opinion. Also, if companies were forced to
allow employees to use marijuana for medical reasons, than would they
also be asked not to work in the facility to protect others? This
would definitely cause another increase in health care costs for all.

Regarding medical marijuana use, I am not in favor of this, due to the
problems with misuse of the law. The law would have to be deeply defined.

Your last paragraph states, why do people get arrested for using
marijuana? The law clearly states illegal use of marijuana is
punishable by law in Wisconsin. Why do sick people whom use marijuana
lose there insurance? Because when they became employees of these
companies, they signed and agreed to a drug policy that states: I will
not use illegal drugs during my employment, because I do not want to
endanger other employees of this company. This is a simple agreement
to protect all of the people that work for this company.

Yes, it is illegal to use marijuana in this state. If you chose to
break the law, you should suffer the consequences.

I don't believe the overwhelming population supports legalized
marijuana use for medical purposes. If they do, then I will accept the
general populations decision to change the law. But, until that time,
I do not support it.
