DCPO HAS 7 DAYS TO SOLVE MANAHAN MURDER
MAYOR Rodrigo Duterte has given the Davao City Police Office seven
days to solve the killing of human rights activist Jacinto "Rashid"
Manahan whom killers gunned down Tuesday while facilitating the
holding of a seminar on death penalty.
Duterte also advised the public to stop making conclusion as to
earlier perception that Manahan was a victim of summary execution, as
the victim was not identified as among those behind the illegal drugs
busines in the city.
"I don't think he (Manahan) was killed because of drugs," Duterte
said, fearing that to assume that the killers were those who gunned
down criminals, his family would not get justice.
"Go into his background. Dig deeper, investigate," Duterte told the
police.
Manahan, a Muslim convert, was a leader of different organizations,
said Duterte. The victim was the executive director of the Community
Resource Development Center and coordinator of Mamayang tutol sa Bitay
(MTB)-Davao chapter.
During his student day at the University of Mindanao, Manahan founded
the Trivia Epsilon Omega.
Manahan, 27, was about to board a vehicle on his way to the University
of the Philippines-Mindanao campus to attend the forum on death
penalty and summary execution when gunmen on board a motorcyle shot
him.
