POLICE FIND POT IN FARMERS' FIELDS
Police removed marijuana crops worth approximately $100,000 from three
farmers' fields in Caledon this week.
Aug. 28, members of the Caledon OPP's HEAT (high enforcement action team)
and criminal investigations unit, along with members of the OPP's Greater
Toronto Region drug enforcement unit, removed plants from locations on
Airport Road, Mayfield Road and Highway 10.
The seizures were part of the OPP's annual marijuana eradication effort --
where officers use helicopters to spot crops and follow up on tips to
police about possible grow locations.
Det. Sgt. Gary Wight says the amounts of marijuana seized were lower than
in previous years -- probably because most growers have gone indoors.
NO ARRESTS
The marijuana was found in isolated locations on privately owned properties
and was likely planted without the knowledge of the property owners, says
Wight. No arrests were made
