PERMITS OVER POT
RE "COPS snuff pot protest," (Aug. 22): I find this is outright ridiculous
- smoke as much pot as you want, but don't hold an assembly without the
proper permits. On Aug. 21, people from across Ontario gathered in Toronto
to peacefully assemble and show their support for personal marijuana use and
changes in our laws regarding possession. They made a great day of it,
Frisbees were thrown, hamburgers were munched, music was played, and lots
and lots of marijuana was openly smoked. However, when the gathering grew
too large, the police didn't detain people for open marijuana use and
possession, they arrested people for not having the proper permits for the
assembly! The majority of citizens want the law to be changed, the police no
longer enforce the specific law, judges rule in favour of decriminalization,
and yet our government just sits idly by watching the conflict. It leaves me
feeling dazed and confused.
