GROW OP NETS MAN $2K FINE
A Winnipeg man received a six-month conditional sentence and a $2,000 fine
yesterday after being convicted of running a marijuana grow operation from
a home on Beverley Street two summers ago. William Shaw, a 34-year-old CN
employee, was found guilty following a half-day trial yesterday of counts
of production of marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Shaw was arrested on Aug. 23, 2002, after police busted a basement grow
operation at his home in the 300 block of Beverley Street.
Officers seized about 50 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of
up to $18,000.
