SUSPECTED DRUG DEALER NABBED BY CID OFFICERS

Nairobi - One suspect was yesterday arrested in connection with trafficking
of 2,000 stones of bhang.

The bhang was seized in Nakuru last week as police detectives moved swiftly
to dismantle a drug trafficking cartel.

The suspect was nabbed in Nairobi after his accomplice in police custody
led investigators to his hide-out in Kayole Estate.

Nakuru Criminal Investigation Department boss Joseph Ngisa confirmed the
arrest.

He said the suspect had escaped leaving behind over 1,000 stones of bhang
and a vehicle.

He said they were still hunting for another suspect said to be
masterminding bhang trafficking between Bungoma and Nairobi.

The suspect was also connected to a recent incident where another vehicle
ferrying some 1,500 stones of bhang was seized and two people arrested.

A suspect said to be the owner of the drug haul escaped from police custody
and is being pursued. Yesterday, Ngisa said his men were out to smash a
drug trafficking ring that operates in Nakuru, Bungoma and Nairobi.

Two of the vehicles which were impounded are at the Nakuru CID headquarters.

The vehicles were carrying a total of 2,000 stones of bhang with an
estimated street value of Sh. 2.5 million.

Meanwhile, an inquest has been opened into the alleged involvement of four
Administration Police officers in the death of a middle-aged man in
Uasin-Gishu District last week.

Uasin-Gishu acting police boss Patrick Kitema said family members of Samuel
Kipchumba claim that four APs on patrol slashed him on the head before he
was knocked down by a speeding lorry along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway. They
further claimed that at the time he was knocked-down, Kipchumba had been
hand-cuffed by the APs.
