AIRPORT AGENTS SEIZE $2.75M IN DRUGS
Canadian border agents at Pearson International Airport have seized
more than $2.75 million in drugs in the past week from passengers
coming into Canada, bringing the total drug seizures to more than $90
million for the year. Last Thursday, agents stopped a 17-year-old-girl
coming into Canada from Guyana and recovered 16 kilos of cocaine and
395 Ecstasy pills that she had concealed in food she was carrying.
$2M HAUL
Border agents estimated the haul to be worth more than $2 million.
On the same day, a 51-year-old man arriving from Jamaica was caught
carrying a kilo of pot worth $20,000.
It was wrapped in brown tape and was hidden in his clothes, agents
said.
The next day, Sept. 3, customs officers found a kilo of cocaine worth
$125,000 in a package that was being shipped to an address in
Scarborough.
HIDDEN IN SUITCASE
On Friday agents found five kilos of cocaine taped in cardboard on the
inside of double-sided suitcases that allegedly belonged to a
46-year-old man returning from Jamaica.
The drugs were estimated to be worth $625,000.
