SECOND OFFICER TO WORK WITH SCHOOLS

Const. Connie Buckle won't be on her own as she works with School
District 73 during the next year.

A second full-time RCMP officer will be named next week to be a school
liaison officer.

Insp. Claire Haywood, acting officer-in-charge of the Kamloops
detachment, said the second officer won't be implementing the school
district protocol that led to Buckle's position.

She said the second officer's job will be more in line with the work
officers did in schools a few years ago, providing specific programs
like the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.

This liaison officer will be paid for from the RCMP budget, while
Buckle's position is being paid for by the school district.
