POLICE CHARGE 30 AFTER RAVE DRUG BUST
More than 30 people have been charged with drug-related offences after
a rave party south-west of Cairns.
Police are concerned by the amount of the drug known as "ice" found at
a weekend rave party on the Atherton Tablelands in far-north Queensland.
Police found a quarter of an ounce the drug, as well as marijuana,
ecstasy and cocaine when they searched people at the Millaa Millaa
party on Friday and Saturday night.
Detective Inspector John Harris says police are concerned ice is
spreading to regional centres.
"Of note the crystal methamphetamine commonly called ice and this is
usually about 30 per cent more pure than the normal methamphetamine
and they're having great problems with it in America," he said.
"It's something we don't need here, we don't need any drugs here, but
we certainly don't need ice sneaking into our rave parties here."
Detective Inspector Harris also warned of possible side-effects of the
drug.
"Once they ingest it causes their personality to change completely,
obviously they become psychotic, also of course it's very dangerous
and very addictive," he said.
"As I say it's very disappointing to us, the rave party in principle
we agree with, but we like to see them drug free."
