IS YOUR CHILD USING DRUGS?
What parent has never been concerned about drug use?
Although all parents hope their children won't use drugs, it's not always
obvious what to say or do.
One of the tools that can be most helpful to parents is knowing how to read
the signs of drug use, so they can react before there's a serious problem.
Many indications of drug use might catch your eye.
On a physical level, watch for any sudden changes in appetite or sleep
patterns, any abrupt changes in style of dress, the appearance of
respiratory problems, difficulties with elocution or coordination, red
eyes, dilated pupils or uncontrollable laughter.
These can all be signs of drug use.
On a psychological level, drug use is often accompanied by a change of
social circle, a loss of interest in previously important activities,
financial difficulties, a lack of concentration, declining grades at school
and frequent mood swings.
If you have suspicions, it is important to act.
But remember, staying calm will best serve your purposes.
Choose the right moment for a frank and constructive dialogue. It's never
useful to have this discussion when your child is under the effects of drugs.
Make sure to adequately inform yourself so you can speak with some authority.
If you feel the need, many agencies can help you to help your child.
The better your resources, the greater the likelihood of success.
