STUDENTS JOIN WAR ON DRUGS

Students at Pasadena Independent School District who bring drugs onto
the campuses are learning that other students do not want drugs there.
In the past six school days, tips made by other students to school
officials led to the arrest of four students who brought marijuana to
school, according to Troy Harrison, PISD assistant police chief.

An assistant principal received a tip that a Dobie High School male
student was in possession of drugs at the school. A small plastic bag
of marijuana was found in the student's right shoe, Harrison said.

In an unrelated incident, a male student from South Houston High
School was arrested for the possession of marijuana. The marijuana was
found in a clear plastic bag that was stored in a handbag, Harrison
said. District officials received a tip that the student had drugs at
school.

In a separate incident, a Thompson Intermediate School male student
was arrested for possession of marijuana. The marijuana was packed
into a cigar, Harrison said. He said the cigars are commonly used for
concealing the marijuana. He said the cigar also makes the burning
marijuana smell a little different. School official received a tip
that the student had drugs at school.

In a separate incident, a male student at San Jacinto Intermediate
School was arrested for the possession of marijuana. The school
received a tip that the student had drugs at school. When the student
was searched, school officials found a cigar that had marijuana
concealed in it.

If parents find cigar wrappers in their children's belongings parents
should further investigate their children's rooms, Harrison said. He
said it is illegal for children to possess tobacco, and, since cigars
are often used to conceal marijuana, the wrappers should make parents
concerned about their children's behaviors.
