FIXED MINIMUMS

Mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent crimes are being considered
by the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and
Homeland Security. An offender could receive a minimum five-year
sentence for enticing anyone with an illegal drug who had a previous
drug conviction or previous drug rehab treatment. Somehow it seems out
of focus for Congress to go after nonviolent criminals when we are at
war with terrorists.
