POSITION IS WRONG
I disagree with the recent letter and The Telegraph questioning the
recent sting operations in Macon. The writer says a number of teens
are now labeled with a criminal record and can view themselves as
beginning a career path towards criminality.
My understanding is that if someone breaks the law that is exactly
what happens. I would guess it is OK with The Telegraph and the letter
writer that as they travel around Macon, the drive-through drug
enterprises help our already tarnished image here.
The Telegraph seems to think it is of no concern to bother with the
low-level users. It is a fact very few stay "low level" and most of
the crimes committed are by those supporting their habits.
It is appalling to me to see the stand The Telegraph is taking on an
issue that can destroy a family. I would like to tell Police Chief
Monroe to keep up the good work; the majority of the citizens of Macon
would like a safer place to live.
