DARWIN CABBIES CONCERNED OVER DRUG HOUSES
Darwin's Taxi Council says drivers are concerned they may be open to
prosecution by taking passengers to houses that are known to deal drugs.
The council's Ken Cohalan says drivers are aware that so-called "drug
houses" are again operating in some Darwin suburbs.
Mr Cohalan says under regulations taxi drivers can not refuse to take
passengers to certain addresses.
But police superintendent Kris Evans says taxi drivers are not being
targeted specifically.
"Taxi drivers have been very helpful to us and I'm hoping that that
continues to be the case," he said.
"If taxi drivers are found with people in the vehicle and that person
has drugs on them, then each case would be examined on its merits."
