EDITORIAL OVERSIGHT

I wonder if perhaps the publication of the letter from Tim Felger (Meeting
the demand, The Times, Oct. 1) was an editorial oversight.

I doubt that The Times would have printed a writer's lamentations over
the end of the Auschwitz gas chambers or regrets that the ethnic
cleansing in Bosnia-Herzegrovina finally ceased.

Whatever ill-considered thoughts are submitted to the paper, you are
supposed to be the professionals. It is ultimately your responsibility
to prevent such drivel from seeing the light of day.
