TEXADA RAIDS PROMPT COMPLAINT LETTER
Powell River Regional District directors voted at the September 30
board meeting to send a letter to the Commission for Public Complaints
Against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The letter will outline alleged RCMP intrusive behaviour and excessive
force used during marijuana eradication raids on both Texada and
Lasqueti islands this fall.
Texada Island director Dave Murphy and Lasqueti Island director Rose
Willow will help draft the letter.
Murphy said currently the RCMP are conducting an in-house
investigation about the operations. "We should take it one step
further," he said at the board meeting. "It was unacceptable what they
did."
