THEFT FOR DRUGS

Three Powell River youth were arrested trying to leave Texada Island
on Friday, October 8 following a break and enter to a Van Anda
residence that occurred earlier that night.

Police recovered stolen property as well as a quantity of drugs, said
RCMP Constable Al Tranminh. The investigation has revealed that the
youths, age 14 and 15, committed the burglary and then used some of
the property to purchase marijuana.

"This crime encapsulates every reason why police work so hard at
shutting down all grow operations," said Tranminh. Kids get lured into
the drug culture, home owners are victimized, neighbourhoods feel less
safe. The reality of the marijuana growing business is that it affects
lives and communities in a negative way. It is not a victimless crime
as many pot growers would suggest."
