LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS SUCCESSFULLY FINISH DRUG COURSE

SUNBURY -- Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Rosini and
Montour County District Attorney Robert Buehner announced the
completion of the Northumberland/Montour Drug Task Force-sponsored
Drug Investigation Training Course.

The course was part of a cooperative effort between field supervisors
Chief Gary Steffen, Sheriff Ray Gerringer and Agent Randy Pollick of
the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Narcotics Investigation. The
training program was an eight-hour course held Oct. 13.

The training was instructed by agents from the Bureau of Narcotics
Investigation and the Office of the Attorney General from State
College. Areas covered in the instruction included drug field test
certification, confidential informant development and handling,
surveillance techniques for buys and confidential informant buys.

Thirteen officers attended the training, representing two counties and
eight departments. Departments participating in the training included
the Montour County Sheriff's Office, Northumberland County Sheriff's
Office, and Riverside, Danville, Point Township, Mount Carmel
Township, Kulpmont and Mount Carmel police departments.

Rosini said, "Our task force has been an overwhelming success, and I
believe we have made a dent in drug trafficking in our two-county
region. I am very pleased that we have so many young officers who are
taking the training and becoming active in drug investigations.

"It is a great asset to our community to have these trained officers
working on drug investigations and helping to remove the poison of
drugs from our streets."
