10 YEARS FOR GROWING POT?

Re: Bust of grow ops just drop in bucket (Bob Holliday, Oct. 22).

Loren Schinkel of the Winnipeg Police Association needs to give his
head a shake. Ten years for growing pot? Marijuana has been proven to
be one of the least harmful recreationally used substances in
existence. Canadians are less and less interested in seeing scarce law
enforcement resources wasted on pot.

The laws need to be changed, most people agree with this. For a
high-profile police officer to advocate measures akin to witch hunting
is irresponsible and unrealistic.

He doesn't speak for me or anyone else in our city who think murderers
and drunk drivers would be better targets of the police.
