PRO-MARIJUANA GROUP SIDESTEPS REAL-WORLD PROBLEMS OF DRUG USE

I urge Alaskans to read the statement in support of Ballot Measure 2. It is
my belief that the authors of that hodgepodge of half truths, double-speak
and plain nonsense should be the ones under the microscope of public
scrutiny, not Lt. Gov. Loren Leman. They remarkably fail to mention that
decriminalizing the possession, use, growing, buying and selling of
marijuana will make it that much easier for it to get it into the hands of
our young people.

The support statement says "marijuana use itself causes very few problems
for individual users or for society." That's simply ridiculous. Obviously
these "experts" have not seen the negative changes in the attitudes,
character and lifestyle of students who choose to smoke pot. I speak from
experience. Marijuana breeds selfishness and decreases drive. The very term
"marijuana initiative" is so oxymoronic that it is nearly laughable.

I know, as a seasoned public school principal, it definitely is not funny
to see students lose interest in learning, serving others, respecting
parental wishes and obeying the law. Pot is addictive and physically
harmful to the body. It is a dangerous drug which fosters nothing but
escape, self-centeredness and regret.
