POTTSBORO SCHOOLS CELEBRATE DRUG AWARENESS WEEK

POTTSBORO -- This is National Drug Awareness Week and Pottsboro schools are
making sure the kids are aware. Activities are planned every day with the
dangers of drugs as the theme.

At the high school, the juniors and seniors are all wearing red to show
drug awareness nationwide. Those wanting to participate could take the Red
Ribbon Pledge, "I pledge to be drug free and support the Texas Red Ribbon
Campaign by taking a stand against alcohol and drug abuse." With this
pledge, they received a card to carry.

They're also having "Jolly Rancher Day" with the slogan being "Be Jolly,
Don't Do Drugs" and "Sucker Day" with the slogan being "Don't Be a Sucker
for Drugs."

At Pottsboro Middle School, the sign-up against drugs was Monday with a
different theme every day. Tuesday was "Roll Up Drugs and Throw Them Away,"
where all kids roll up their pant legs or sleeves. Wednesday is "Put Drugs
to Sleep," where all students wear their pajamas. Thursday is "Blackout
Drugs," where everyone is dressed in black, and Friday is "Scare Drugs
Away," with kids wearing their scariest T-shirts. The teachers were saying
they will wear T-shirts saying, "You can't scare us, we're teachers."

At Pottsboro Elementary, the themes continue. On Monday was "Shade Out
Drugs," each kid wearing their favorite sunglasses. Tuesday was "Hugs, Not
Drugs," their favorite stuffed animal can sit on their desk. Wednesday was
"Wear Red Day" to show support of drug awareness nationwide. Thursday is
"Put A Cap On Drugs," where favorite caps are allowed. Friday is "Sock it
to Drugs," when, of course, you wear silly socks.

In addition to the theme days, there will be Drug Awareness poster contests
with the posters being displayed throughout the community and a
motivational drug awareness movie being viewed by the entire school.
