MEDICAL MARIJUANA IS A RISK TO FAMILIES

Medical marijuana is on the ballot again, asking Oregonians to
increase access to a drug that mental-health experts believe is the
worst of the illegal drugs.

I agree that when used by AIDS or cancer patients, marijuana does
bring relief from nausea and improve appetite when drug treatments
make it difficult for the patient to improve, but this measure isn't
for them. It mostly makes it easier for addicts to be legal.

State-run pot shops, users growing and selling pot for profit. Medical
providers with questionable practices like Dr. Phillip Leveque (whose
license was revoked) could prescribe pot for "debilitating conditions"
like simple back pain.

Want to smoke pot because you just like it? Then you will probably
support this measure. I will vote no on Measure 33 because I have
experienced firsthand a family torn apart by someone who couldn't live
without pot.

Consider this when you are at a stoplight. Perhaps a medical marijuana
patient picks up his stash from the local shop, tokes a few bowls and
gets out on the road in his car. This law would do nothing to stop
that.

Is Measure 33 worth the risk to you and your family?
