IN LEAGUE WITH DRUG LORDS?
Ald. Ted Matlak's (32nd) suggestion to tax the drug trade [metro
story, Oct. 22] is in reality asking for government to be a party to
illegal drug sales. The government already confiscates money seized in
drug raids. But Matlak's proposal is the equivalent of one knowingly
accepting part of the loot from a bank robbery. Isn't that a crime?
If the government knows whom to tax, the government also knows whom
to arrest and put out of business. The only other solution is legalization.
