REEFER MADNESS, REEF MADNESS
Re: Only pot-growers need fear heat-sensing cameras, Guest Editorial, Nov. 3
I take exception to the conclusion of The Ottawa Citizen's editorial.
There is one other group of people that could be adversely affected by
these infrared cameras: reef keepers. A marine reef tank setup will be
very similar to a grow-op in power usage, water usage and the type of
lighting used. Anyone who keeps stony and other light-loving corals
will require the same types of high output halogen lights as a grow-op
would use. The difference would be in the light frequency emitted, but
not the intensity or the heat signature. I would be extremely ticked
off if the drug squad swarmed my house, and instead of finding a
grow-op, found my reef tank.
There are many reefkeepers in the Lower Mainland, and they could all
be open to sudden search by paranoid police.
