ROLL OUT THE RHETORIC, THE POT BILL'S BACK
So, the Liberals are going to light up the debate over decriminalizing
marijuana again. The bill that died on the order table because of the
summer election has been reintroduced and should get the usual
suspects fuming again on both sides.
Like many of these issues, there's a lot of misunderstanding and
generalizations surrounding it. Opponents of the bill will see it as
legalizing pot smoking and will launch an all-out offfensive. The
opposition's ace-in-hole has already been played - i.e., how
upset the Americans are going to be about this.
Oh, those delinquent Canadians.
The fact is, pot isn't being made legal, it's being
decriminalized. There's still a penalty for possession, it just
won't tie up the legal system over a trivial infraction.
