'CRACK HOUSE' VACATED
Residents of St. David Crescent have their neighbourhood back.
Battling for the last 18 months what they described as a crack house at
1087 St. David, neighbours watched Monday as hydro was disconnected from
the rental home and the property owner boarded up the doors and windows.
Neighbours had gone to city council early in October to have the house
cleaned up under the property maintenance bylaw, but owner Duff Braun gave
the tenants an eviction notice for Oct. 31.
Braun said there were no problems with the eviction and the tenants were
cooperative.
"We're getting a demolition permit, will set something up to knock it down
and build a new house on the property," he said.
Brenda Chaplin, who lives next door to the problem house, said she breathed
a big sigh of relief and took pictures while they boarded it up.
"The people are gone, the power lines are gone and the house is boarded up.
Finally I can sleep at night," she said.
"We've got our neighbourhood back."
