YOUTH DRUG AND ALCOHOL PROGRAM A FIRST FOR NT
The Northern Territory's first youth-oriented drug and alcohol program
has been launched in the Territory, by Centacare NT.
The Daisy program will offer adolescent specific services and support
and counselling to family members.
Major Brian Watters, chair of the Australian National Council on
Drugs, says programs like these will help combat some of the problems
he has seen in Territory communities.
"I was horrified at 10 o'clock at night to see little kids still not
in bed, parents fighting and brawling and this is a worry for them,"
he said.
"School teachers tell me it's a problem, the kids are too tired with
what's gone on the night before, and anything we can do to to try and
support these people and make changes is very important."
