RESOURCE CENTRE MARKS NATIONAL ADDICTIONS WEEK

Three events to mark National Addictions Awareness Week Nov. 15-19 are
being held at Brockville's new Mental Health and Addictions Resource
Centre.

The resource centre opened last month in the Elmgrove Unit of the
Brockville Psychiatric Hospital (BPH), where the events will be held.

The first session, titled Ask the Pharmacist and Medicine Cabinet
Clean Out, runs on a drop-in basis from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov.
15. Information is available on prescription medication issues from
Dina Glaser, BPH pharmacist, and unused and outdated medication may be
left for safe disposal.

On Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the topic is Addiction
and the Family.

An information session on the impacts of addiction on the family,
coping skills and available resources will be provided by Elaine
Mason-Pankhurst, concurrent disorders nurse specialist at the
hospital, and BPH social worker Monica Bull.

The third session, titled Motherwise/Tri-County Addiction Services,
runs Thursday, Nov. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Drop-in information is available on motherwise, a program for women
who are pregnant or have young children and have questions about drugs
and alcohol directed to Nadine Doyle of the motherwise program.

Carol Cecchini, a counsellor with the Tri-County Addiction Services,
will be on hand during a drop-in information session about alcohol and
other drugs, problem gambling and available resources.

Regular services of the resource centre will also be available during
the special events, including current pamphlets, books and videos on a
variety of mental health and addictions topics.

The resource centre is located in the west entrance of the Elmgrove
Unit at 1804 County Road 2, East. Regular hours of operation are 12 to
3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Call 345-1462, ext. 2538 for more information.
