KIDNEY PATIENT ADMITS DRUGS CHARGE
A man who admitted possessing cannabis escaped serious punishment
after the judge learned he was awaiting a kidney transplant.
Armit Singh, 26, admitted possessing cannabis and breaching two
suspended sentences for possession of the drug, when he appeared at
Coventry Crown Court on Wednesday.
When Judge Richard Cole heard that Singh, of Hen Lane, Holbrooks, was
receiving dialysis treatment and awaiting a kidney transplant, he gave
him a conditional dis-charge for one year.
In mitigation Lucy Allen said Singh had never fallen foul of the law
until last year. She said: "He was diagnosed with kidney failure and
got hooked on cannabis. He has recently given it up."
She said he was going to have a transplant as his mother was a
suitable match.
