NO LET-UP IN THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST MARIJUANA PLANTATIONS.
The order come from Interior and Local Government Secretary Angelo Reyes to
the Philippine National Police, and was relayed to all police regional
offices by PNP chief Edgar Aglipay.
Reyes said in a statement that the campaign against marijuana by the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and other law enforcement agencies must
be sustained until all marijuana plantations in the country are destroyed
and eradicated.
Police investigations showed that the nine kilos of dried marijuana leaves
shipped to Negros Occidental, intercepted by the police at the port of San
Carlos City reportedly originated from a suspected plantation in Cebu
In June, a marijuana plantation was also discovered by the police in
Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental, and its alleged cultivator and
financier was arrested.
Several kilos of dried marijuana leaves were also seized by the police in
Bacolod City early this year.
After the series of confiscation of dried marijuana leaves and discovery of
its plantation in Salvador Benedicto, the police tightened security in
various ports of entry in Negros Occidental.
RA 9165 states that the cultivation of marijuana is punishable by death.
Early this month, the PDEA and police uprooted and destroyed P4 million
worth of marijuana plants in Kapangan, Benguet.
