Pearson Gets $500gs From Duo

Airport drug cops say they're seizing an increasing amount of
liquefied cocaine being smuggled into the country.

A Quebec couple are the most recent arrested at Pearson airport after
four kilos of dissolved coke, worth about $550,000, was found in
insect repellent, nail polish remover and sun tan lotion in a toiletry
bag.

"There has been a large influx of liquid coke in recent months," said
RCMP Sgt. Frank Gougeon, of the force's airport drug squad. "We
believe the drug dealers are changing their tactics to evade police."

Patrizia Giolti, of the Canada Border Services Agency, said the Quebec
couple had arrived from Peru and were in transit at Pearson to catch a
connecting flight to Montreal when arrested.

Officers became suspicious after discovering the bottles were still
filled after a holiday and the bag was also heavier than it normally
should be, Giolti said.

"If these people (drug smugglers) use their creativity for goodwill,
the world will be a better place," she said, adding an ion-scan
machine was used to detect traces of drugs.

Charged are: [redacted] They were released on bail pending a court
appearance this
month.

Customs officers last week intercepted five kilos of cocaine worth
about $636,000 inside a garbage container on an aircraft that had just
arrived from St. Maarten.

And last month two GTA men returning from India were arrested after
over 12 kilos of heroin worth more than $4.4 million was found in the
false bottoms of luggage.
