COMMANDANT IDENTIFIES NDLEA'S PROBLEMS

Borno National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Commandant, Wale
Ige says lack of operational vehicles and manpower are affecting the
agency's performance on border roads.

He told newsmen in Maiduguri that Borno was a "strategic state"
where drug trafficking increases on daily basis.

He explained that the trafficking among neighbouring countries of
Chad, Niger and Cameroon must be checked.

He noted that the agency could not do its job effectively because it
had only one operational vehicle running the borders.

The commandant called on government to recruit more competent hands
and support the agency to effectively discharge its duty.

He appealed to well-meaning individuals in the state to compliment
government's effort by assisting the organisation with logistics and
information that would lead to the arrest of those involved in the business.

Ige advised the public to desist from taking dangerous drugs that
would leave them "mentally deranged".

He said that the command recently arrested two persons on Baga-Chad
road with 150 compressed block of India hemp.
