DRUG-TRAFFICKING CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING CONTROVERSIAL RAID

A 36-year-old single mom and her 13-year-old son have been charged
with possession and cultivation of marijuana following a controversial
police raid at their Kylemore Avenue home more than a week ago.

Police confirmed the pair was charged yesterday as a result of the
Nov. 10 raid at the family's residence at a Fort Rouge housing project.

The woman and her son claimed as many as 10 officers, some wearing ski
masks, broke open the back door and came upstairs into the boy's room,
yelling at him that they were police.

"They stormed into my room and two of them were holding guns. They
were pointing them at me," the boy said.

The officers said they were searching for marijuana.

The family said over the next hour, the officers turned the house
upside down looking for evidence. The police found a single pot plant
and took it with them, the family said.

The woman also said her late husband's cremated remains were spilled
onto a floor and a porta-potty filled with human excrement was
overturned.
