MARIJUANA NOT HARMFUL TO ADULTS
Dear Editor,
I would like to point out that all the reasons to keep marijuana
illegal does not justify making the growing and possession of
marijuana by adults a criminal offence. The use of marijuana by adults
does not pose an imminent threat to the health of an adult user. Abuse
of marijuana maybe harmful but it does not meet the definition of
dangerous. The use of marijuana does not meet the third criteria to be
classified as a schedule I drug by the federal government Marijuana is
safe to use by adults without medical supervision.
The concern of society is the use of marijuana by non-adults. Society
creates this problem by keeping marijuana illegal for everybody. Is it
common knowledge that marijuana is easier to get by kids than alcohol
and tobacco?
Actually the judiciary has denied due process of law to keep marijuana
illegal. The judiciary denies equal protection of the 4th Amendment by
claiming the marijuana laws do not violate rights to privacy, to
property and liberty protected by the 4th amendment.
Due process of requires a compelling state interest to justify
violating fundamental rights. The lawyers and judges claim the
possession of marijuana is not a fundamental right therefore the
government can use any reason it wants.
People are in jail for marijuana because of political reasons. What
happened to the rule of law?
