SECOND-HAND POT
Ottawa -- In your Nov. 25 edition, we were faced with conflicting
information about smoking. On page A2, Roy MacGregor waxed eloquent about
smoke-laden drapes in his hotel room and eventually concluded that we are
all better off (even the smokers) from the spreading smoking bans in public
and private places (Smoking Bans May Be Just The Ticket -- Especially For
Those Who Still Light Up). Makes it easier to quit or cut back, he said.
On the facing page was a report on the rapid increase in pot smoking (Pot
- -- It's Not Just For Bohemians Any More), accompanied by a huge photo of a
pot smoker exhaling enough second-hand smoke to fill Mr. MacGregor's hotel
room.
It is very important that better information about carcinogens, second-hand
smoke and other unpleasant effects of pot smoking be determined and
reported as Parliament considers decriminalization.
