GROW OP NUMBERS SHOW PROGRAM'S SUCCESS
New numbers show Abbotsford police are putting a damper on the city's
drug trade.
In 2007, around 148 suspected grow ops were inspected and, of those,
88 were shut down.
Twenty of the operations were followed with reports to the Ministry
of Children and Families because children were being put in serious
risk. The number of fires started because of grow ops has decreased
by 90 per cent.
In 2005, Abbotsford came up with the Grow Op Public Safety Inspection
pilot program, and now the city runs a full-time program focused on
stopping grow ops.
"Grow Ops pose a significant health and safety hazard to the
neighbourhoods in which they are operating," said Abbotsford Mayor
George Ferguson, in a recent release.
