COPS NET $1M IN COCAINE AND POT
Toronto drug officers shut down two grow houses and seized nearly $1
million in cocaine, marijuana and crack following an eight-month
undercover investigation. Staff Insp. Dan Hayes, of the drug squad,
said officers also found three handguns -- two of them loaded --
during raids this week of two Toronto homes as well as a farm and a
storage unit in Milton.
The loaded handguns, a 9-mm and a .32-calibre seized from a Blackburn
St. home Wednesday, were smuggled from the U.S.
"These handguns were fully loaded, in plain view and ready to be
used," Hayes said.
At the same Blackburn St. home, officers found a grow operation with
242 plants and 2 kg of dried, packaged marijuana.
MONEY BEHIND THEM
The third handgun -- a .357 magnum revolver seized from an Alton
Towers Cir. home Wednesday, along with 15 grams of crack and 100 grams
of cocaine -- was stolen earlier in a break and enter in York Region.
The second grow house was raided Thursday at the Milton farm where
officers found 49 plants. Police uncovered equipment for growing
marijuana at the Milton storage unit.
Police arrested five people Wednesday. They're charged with
conspiracy, trafficking and weapons offences.
While not affiliated with a gang, Hayes said the five people had "some
finances behind them" because they were able to deliver a kilogram of
high-grade cocaine Wednesday to an undercover officer.
