COPS USE DOG TO FIND DRUGS AT HIGH SCHOOL
Canmore RCMP discovered and confiscated small amounts of marijuana after a
search at Canmore Collegiate High School on Thursday.
"It's not something we do on a regular basis," RCMP Cpl. Pauline
Larrey-King said.
An RCMP officer with a German shepherd from the police dog service in
Calgary and a park warden dog handler conducted the search.
Larrey-King said the dogs were in the area on a course and the detachment
decided to contact the school to ask if it would be interested in an
impromptu search. The school consented and the search resulted in two
students being found in possession of marijuana. Two others had residue on
their property.
Charges were laid against one of the students and he will be referred to
the Alternate Measures program, she said.
Also while at the school, Canmore RCMP were advised an assault took place
the same day at lunch hour. A 17-year-old male student choked another male
student and threatened to cause bodily harm, police said.
The accused was arrested and has been charged with assault and uttering
threats. He will be appearing in Canmore provincial court on Jan. 26.
Canmore RCMP are also investigating another assault on a student which
occurred in October.
