DRUG TESTING IS NOT SCHOOLS' JOB
I am a student at Oak Park High School. I read your Dec. 16 article on
the random drug testing that may soon take place at Novi High School
("Novi looks to join the schools with random drug tests: Some find the
idea unjust, intrusive"). I do not think this is a very good idea.
I stay away from drugs, but the whole thought of someone testing me
because I am an athlete keeps my mind focused away from what I am
supposed to be doing and more on worrying about the drug test. I
wrestle and play baseball, and I don't have time to think about some
drug test. I'm sure many others feel this way.
Yes, we, the athletes, do represent the school. So that is a definite
reason not to put a breach or petition on athletes who are reps for
the school and students who attend. It's just not right.
