D.A.R.E. PARENT PROGRAM

The Medford Police Department, in conjunction with the Andrews Middle
School, would like to invite you to attend the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse
Resistance Education) Parent Program.

This program will consist of five (5) one and one-half hour workshops
which will be presented to you by experienced D.A.R.E. officers as
well as other Medford Police officers who possess a wealth of
knowledge on topics ranging from drug abuse, violence prevention and
any other relative parental concerns.

The focus will be on developing better skills to interact with your
children, learning about peer pressures and identifying signs of
potential substance abuse and violence.

The D.A.R.E. Parent Program is intended for parents of children of all
ages and other interested adults.

The following is a brief description of topics to be discussed at
evening workshops, which will be held from 7-8 p.m.:

Jan. 11: Session One: Drugs and Violence in Today's World (Gateway drugs,
peer pressure, media influence)

Jan. 18: Session Two: More About Drugs Today (Drug recognition, current
drug trends, signs and symptoms of drug abuse, etc.)

Jan. 25: Session Three: Protecting Your Child From Violence (Bullying,
youth violence, gangs, conflict resolution, hate crimes)

Feb. 1: Session Four: Staying Safe on the Internet (Monitoring your child
online, child predators, instant messaging)

Feb. 8: Session Five: Community Interest Panel and Resources for Parents
(Open forum for discussion and concerns relative to drug and violence
prevention, transitioning from middle school to high school)

Morning workshops will be held on the following dates, from 9-10:30
a.m. Sessions will cover the same topics and information as evening
sessions: Jan. 13, Jan. 20, Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10.

All workshops will be held at the Andrews Middle School

Parents/guardians are welcome to attend any or all of the workshops.
