C-BISD TO FUND ANTI-DRUG PROGRAM
WEST COLUMBIA - Columbia-Brazoria ISD officials hope an $11,000
appropriation granted last week for a substance abuse prevention
program will help keep its middle and high school students drug-free.
"It's a proactive approach trying to address the problem before kids
are in deeper trouble with the law, " Board President Lynn Klement
said.
The Intervention Specialist Program will fill in a support gap for the
district's older students identified as being high-risk for drug
abuse, and supplement prevention programs already in place at the
elementary level, such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, said Lynn
Grell-Boethel, the district's federal and special programs executive
director.
