LOCAL SCHOOLS NOT PLANNING DRUG DOG USE
Local education officials have no plans to follow Edmonton's lead to let
drug-sniffing dogs out to arbitrarily patrol school corridors. "No, we have
no plans to do the same," said Graham White, spokesman for the Calgary
Board of Education.
"However, we absolutely will do it (bring in the dogs) and have done it for
a specific search," he said.
The Edmonton public school division this week signed an agreement with
their city police to launch a pilot project that will allow high school
principals to request a random drug search by a one-year-old black Lab and
her handler.
If the dog finds a student's stash, the principal decides if charges will
be laid.
