EX-OFFICER FACES MORE DRUG CHARGES

LINCOLN - A Logan County grand jury Friday handed down an indictment
against former Lincoln police Cpl. Diana Short and her husband that adds
two more felonies and several misdemeanors to charges filed earlier
following a Dec. 15 drug raid on their Lincoln home.

The eight-count indictment against Diana Short includes charges of:

- - A Class II felony of unlawful manufacture of marijuana for allegedly
growing between 500 and 2,000 grams of marijuana

- - A Class II felony of unlawful manufacture of marijuana with the intent to
deliver

- - A Class III felony of unlawful production of between 20 and 50 marijuana
plants

- - Two Class III felonies of official misconduct alleging that, by illegally
growing, possessing, selling and consuming marijuana, Short violated the
contract between the city of Lincoln and the Fraternal Order of Police and
also violated the Lincoln Police Department's Policy and Procedures Manual

- - Two Class A misdemeanors for possession of a firearm without a requisite
Firearm Owner's Identification Card after a 9 mm handgun and a .22-caliber
handgun were found in the Shorts' possession without either one having a
FOID card

- - A Class IV felony of making a false affidavit for allegedly deceiving the
Illinois Secretary of State's office earlier this year when she provided a
false date of birth suggesting she was one year older than her actual age.

Her husband, John Short, a paramedic who is on administrative leave, faces
identical charges, except he was not indicted on the official misconduct or
the false affidavit charges.

In the raid, police discovered 25 mature marijuana plants growing in their
basement in addition to the handguns.

Logan County State's Attorney Tim Huyett said Friday the weight and number
of plants were determined to be greater than previously suspected.

The official weight of the plants totaled 945.2 grams, or about 20.6
pounds, he said.

Diana Short has resigned from the police department. She and her husband
were released from jail after each posted 10 percent of a $25,000 bond.
