PROGRAM HAS AMAZING IMPACT

As officer in charge of the Comox Valley RCMP, I would like to
congratulate the Comox Valley Crime Stoppers organization.

The local Crime Stoppers chapter has been in existence in the Comox
Valley since 1989 and has had an incredible impact in assisting the
RCMP to solve crime.

The information provided by citizens of the community can solve the
crimes that have been perpetrated onto innocent victims. By these past
crimes being solved, it's impossible to say how much future
victimization was prevented.

Locally the Crime Stoppers board is comprised of dedicated volunteers
that want to contribute in making our community safer. My officers
have told me time after time of the positive impact that the Comox
Valley Crime Stoppers has had in solving crime in the Comox Valley.

Since many of these criminals are repeat offenders, it is hard to
quantify the crime prevention derived, but it is massive based on
anecdotal information I have reviewed. Whatever the reason, $17
million worth of drugs have been seized in the Comox Valley since the
inception of the local Crime Stoppers program.

People ask me why tipsters call into Crime Stoppers. The reasons, I
believe, are varied. It could be the rewards that are issued - up to
$2,000 can be received for information leading to an arrest. Another
reason could be the anonymity for the callers. Crime Stoppers does not
use call display or recording devices and the caller does not have to
give their name or attend court.

Every tip has a motivational reason behind it, maybe even a family
member who wants a wrongdoer to turn their life around.

In closing I wish the Crimes Stoppers program continued success in
making the Comox Valley one of the best places in the world to live.

Inspector Tom Gray Officer in Charge Comox Valley RCMP.
