STUDENTS CAN HELP FIGHT CRIME
Student Crime Stoppers was introduced to the Comox Valley high schools
in 2004.
Students had complaints including information on drug sales and
dealing, as well as bullying. An overwhelming number of students
expressed concerns about not wanting their schools to be vandalized or
become a location for criminals to frequent.
In response to their concerns, youth were given information on how to
utilize Crime Stoppers and how to report information about crimes they
had learned about.
Constable Dean Maxwell, RCMP Crime Stoppers co-ordinator, advises that
the RCMP are committed in making local schools safe. The Student Crime
Stoppers program assists in creating that safety by giving students
security in knowing they can call in tips anonymously and that their
concerns will be addressed by police.
In order to promote Student Crime Stoppers ongoing educational
training will continue throughout the school year.
