POT GROWERS NEED TO BE SENSITIVE

It's marijuana harvesting season again and already the complaints are
coming in to the county's air quality district about the skunky smells
wafting through local neighborhoods.

No doubt before the season is over we'll have at least one incident of the
theft of someone's plants and we hope nothing more serious than that.

We support the law that allows people to grow marijuana as medicine. Sure,
there are people growing it that are abusing the privilege, but we think
the people that are helped by it are more important.

What we also have said, however, and we'll say it again, is that people who
grow marijuana legally need to be more sensitive to their neighbors. The
kind of in-your-face, "just try to do something about it" pot growers who
gleefully watch their plants grow well within view (and aroma) of neighbors
is unacceptable.

Not only is it rude, it is also dangerous. More than one grower in this
valley has had a brush with crime as valuable pot plants become too much of
a temptation to someone who decides to climb over the fence one day.

Growers also need to understand that while they think growing and smoking
pot is great, not everyone else does, especially people with young and
teenaged children.

So if you're growing, do us all a favor: keep it to yourself.
