BYLAW TO MAKE HOMEOWNERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR GROW OPS
Mission homeowners may soon be held accountable where marijuana growing
operations are concerned.
The District of Mission is currently working with Mission RCMP to draft a
bylaw that will target property owners when drug operations are discovered.
"It's targeted at both grow ops and drug houses in general," said Mission
director of corporate administration Dennis Clark.
"The goal is to make the property owner accountable and to make it more
difficult for these types of operations to take place."
Clark said Mission legal counsel and Mission RCMP officers are still
hammering out the details of the soon-to-be proposed bylaw.
The bylaw will likely impose fines on such property owners, Clark said.
Those funds could be used to help repair and restore any damages that take
place on growing operation properties, but the specifics are not yet public.
Mission RCMP officers confirmed they are helping in the planning of the
bylaw, but said they are "still in the process of working it out."
