LEGALIZING MARIJUANA WORSENS DRUG PROBLEMS

Re: Policies contribute to drug availability (SP, Jan. 21). Nathan Holowaty
thinks legalization of marijuana will make it harder for under-aged kids to
obtain it.

I disagree. If marijuana was legalized, more people, even adults,
would think it is now acceptable. I also think this would not help to
regulate the growing of marijuana, because the seeds are easy to get
and grow.

An age limit on purchasing marijuana makes it more accessible for
adults. Those who were scared to buy marijuana from dealers or to be
seen with it will think they can now be open about it.

Finally, if marijuana is legalized, the dealers will most likely move
on to bigger and worse criminal enterprises, including dealing harder
drugs. This would put more hard drugs on the street.

Legalizing marijuana only creates another problem within a
problem.
