DON'T GIVE JUNKIES THEIR OWN POISON
Re: Free heroin program recruits addicts, Feb. 9
As much as I have empathy for any human being dealing with the torment
of an addiction, and as much as I understand the cost in human and
societal terms of such addictions, my tax money is not there to
purchase heroin, no more than it is there to purchase tobacco for
people addicted to cigarette smoking.
No, we tax the hell out of smokers, banish them to second-class
citizenship, and then turn around and coddle heroin addicts by
supplying them with their poison in the hopes of getting them off the
drug.
I do, however, support treatment programs that can demonstrate success
- -- but not with the same drug we are fighting against. The concept of
fighting fire with fire applies to forest fires, not heroin addiction.
Sorry, but not with my taxes. Give your heads a shake.
